The older an electrical system, the greater the potential hazard. But when should you consider carrying out a rewire? After all it is a major job and not one any householder or landlord contemplates lightly.
The first thing to consider is generally the age of the property. If a house was built 25 or 30 years ago then it is potentially a viable candidate for a rewire.
If you’re unsure of the age of your home or when electrical rewiring last took place, then there’s no need for concern as we can offer a rewiring survey to review if one is required. This is essentially a safety review which will inform the property owner whether a total rewire is essential.
In addition we would assure customers that this is not a tick box exercise to obtain a job – we prize our reputation as being fair and transparent with our clients. We do not push work on people that is not required – our reputation is everything to us.
There are ways to assess the safety of your home yourself. These key warning signs can also give away the age of your home and how long ago it was wired.
Visible wiring in the home and sockets are things that you can look at yourself. Obviously any looking old or frayed will likely need replacing. Hot sockets and plugs are also things you cannot ignore.
If your fuse box is on a wooden structure, this is likely to suggest that your home has been wired between 40 and 50 years ago and will be in urgent need of an overhaul.
If you are selling your home this is an area you may wish to look at. Equally if you re buying a home you should always find out whether it needs a rewire.
